NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
