Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could boost his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus more on the game.

The actual advancement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would often compete against one another. He was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best female players the poker arena today. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
