No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
