NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
