Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
